Dayton - Day Thirty

Hurray for having military holidays! My hubbie didn't have to work today which was so nice! We had a very relaxed morning which included both of us reading our books! I was happy to find a book series that he enjoys reading! Then I went swimming and he watched while continuing to read. At the end he timed me to see how quickly I could swim the length of the pool with different strokes. That was fun!

Then we spent a long time deciding what to do for lunch and finally  (finally!) to eat Thai again. It's just that good! We had a nice time sitting outside and eating our food. My stomach has been unsettled for a few days so that made it a little difficult, but thankfully I made it through!

The rest of the day was super relaxed. We watched tennis, played cards, read our books. It was lovely. MMM fixed my bike tire for me. What a sweet guy. And then we watched more tennis!

I have loved watching tennis for the past 11 years, and one of the main players who got me interested in it was Andy Roddick. I was very sad to learn that he is retiring after this grand slam. :( He played last night and I was so glad to see him play an excellent match! It was brilliant! I am looking forward to seeing him play his next round and am hoping to have him get far in this tournament!

Dayton - Day Twenty-Nine

It was another night of just not enough sleep. I brought my hubbie to work early in order to get to my second PT appointment. This appointment was cool because instead of the evaluation is it all exercises! I got some homework to do on my own too!

I didn't get that much done yesterday after my appointment because I was just wiped out. I did read for a while though, which was great.

MMM had an early out today so I went to pick him and once we got home we just hung out and watched tennis for awhile. Then our date night began!

We went on base to go to the library where I got the next two books in my current series. We made our way over to supper and then to the store. But the night's goal was to go bowling! We had a lot of fun! My first game was the best I've ever had with the score of 95! I was extremely pleased! MMM got to almost 130! I was very impressed! The best thing was that I got a total of 2 strikes and 4 spares last night. That is way better than normal. We're planning on going bowling every Thursday from now on. It's totally inexpensive and a great time all around! Next time maybe we'll get some of the guys to come too. :D

Dayton - Day Twenty-Eight

I brought MMM to work today and it was an early day! It was strange to be outside while it was so dark! I'm just not used to that anymore since I left Josie's. I brought him today since I had my first physical therapy session to go to this morning!

My appointment took longer than expected but ended up being pretty good. They did a very thorough evaluation of my condition which was somewhat painful. And then she gave my neck a major rub which was tough. I know she knows what she's doing, but I'm not fond of the pain that comes before the relief. I set up my following appointments, twice a week.

I got home and felt worn out and it was only 10am! I laid around and watched Netflix while I ate breakfast and then decided to at least sit out by the pool and keep reading my book. I read several hundred pages of that books and absolutely loved sitting outside! It got hot enough (after a cold morning) to make me actually want to go swimming, so swimming I went! I was a bit more tired than normal so I cut my time short by a few minutes and then continued to read my book.

The day went very quickly and before I knew it, it was time for me to make myself supper! I wasn't expecting MMM to get home before I left so I didn't make him anything..poor guy. It worked out that I did end up picking him up and bringing him home where we were surprised to learn our bike tire woes aren't over! The new tube has a gash in it without any explanation. *sigh*

I went to choir at our church here and it wasn't quite as fun as last week, but only because I was more distracted by my physical state. I am feeling pretty sore right now. It did make choir a little more interesting that trying to work with my own situation and find a way to get comfortable.

I headed home and had nice chats with a few people but *gasp* as soon as I got home I realized I forgot my purse! So I quickly called my new friend and she got a hole of a guy still at church who would wait for me. So I made my way all the way back to the church (approx 15 mins) and picked it back up. I did freak out a little about it at first just because my purse has both my civilian and military i.d. cards, without which I can't get onto base like I need to do tomorrow.

So I had a long day with a few adventures. I am now enjoying the relief of my pain meds and watching tennis!

Dayton - Day Twenty-Seven

I drove MMM to work today so I could go grocery shopping. Once I got home I just hung out for a little while until the tire store next door opened. Once they were open, I brought my bike over to see if they might help me with my tire even though they usually just work on cars! They agreed, and so they tried to fill my bike but it wasn't sitting right. It ending up popping the tube! They felt bad and said if I got a new tube they'd fix it up for me. So I ran back home to grab money and the car keys before heading over to the store.

Once I got to the store I tried to find the right dimensions and really struggled since the numbers I were given weren't copied exactly on the tube packaging. Yikes! I asked a gentleman to help me and he was confused as well! I decided on two different sizes just to be sure.

So I made my way back to the tire shop where they fixed up my bike for me. It was rather funny to be walking past all the cars in the shop and to see my little bike upside down being worked on. I was happy to get it back. My first objective was to go bring the extra tube back.

I finally got to go on my planned bike ride and it felt so good. It was amazing the difference it made to have that tire how it's supposed to be. I wanted to go much farther than I was able to, but hopefully soon I can.

I got ready for my day after that and made my way to the grocery store on base. It was astounding to me how busy it was. It was like the sky was falling and everyone was stock-piling. I really couldn't believe it. I managed to get everything I needed without running into anyone else!

I got all our laundry done while I was home today. It was another short day for MMM so I picked him up and brought him to the golf course where he showed me how to putt! I left him there to play with his classmates while I came back home to keep cleaning up and make supper. MMM was gone for a surprising 4 hours which caught us both off-guard, but that's okay, at least he had fun! :)

Supper was a deliciously healthy tacos which we heartily enjoyed.  Now the rest of the evening will be spent watching tennis and hopefully sleeping better than last night.

Dayton - Day Twenty-Six

Today was an emotionally interesting day. MMM left early for his class workout but came home for a little while afterwards which was so nice! After getting ready for my day, I decided to plot out a biking route to finally get out on the road again. Before leaving I did start making supper which is a new recipe! More about that later.

As I got on my way, I found out that the elevator is not working, so I had to carry my bike down three flights of stairs. No problem! The problem was having a slightly flat tire! I looked up where I could get it filled up and got on my way to the nearest gas station. Sadly, I had to pay for it...but even worse...I epically failed! Instead of inflating my tire, I deflated my tire! I was pretty frustrated about that. And then it started raining. All this led to a very discouraged me. So I came home and hunkered down for the day since I couldn't go swimming in the rain either.

I watched netflix, worked on supper, read my book, and watched tv. I tried to do some research on gluten-free desserts. I really need to find desserts that are simple, easily transported, and with few ingredients! Any ideas? I really don't want to buy a whole bunch of ingredients that I won't be able to use up before leaving Dayton. I felt frustrated still and snacked more than I should and even took a nap!

When I woke up from my awesome dream of my two genius nieces (they are 2 and 1 day old) who were instructing me in how to play guitar, I felt like a failure for not getting anything productive done. I decided to do the dishes and as soon as I started them I really started thinking about the day. I thought of this post and how unhappy I was with my day.

Then! I remembered going through "Telling Yourself the Truth" with friends from church and how much that changed how I thought about myself. I realized that I hadn't called myself a failure in months. I understood that today was different for a few reasons.

I heard once that if Satan isn't bugging you, you aren't doing your job. I think that's what it came down to. I really haven't been doing a good job in my relationship with Christ. I've been too distracted to notice. But yesterday I was reminded and encouraged to be better, and now today...what do you know, I feel the most discouraged about myself than I have in such a long time.

After I saw that it changed everything. I began to think of the positive things of the day. I did my best to be healthy and go biking and just had a hiccup along the way. I made supper for my husband. I picked things up. I did exercise a little in our room. I did the dishes. I read my very good book. I took a much needed nap.  I got to watch some great tennis. My husband even thinks I'm cute! =P And now we are discussing my birthday, could it get any better? So my day was good after all. I am happy.

Now, about supper. I decided to do another recipe in the crockpot and chose to do a lemon and herb chicken.

This is it once it was finished. I cut up some of our many carrots and put them in the tin foil and just set them on top after a few hours. They turned out very well!

Here's the completed meal. I made the mashed potatoes on the stove and the meal was ready just in time for when MMM got home from work! Hurray! The chicken was a little too tart for my taste, but I was pleased that adding a dash of ranch really helped in that area. MMM didn't mind and his only complaint (and mine too) was that it was a little dry. The rest of the chicken should be a bit better since it was submerged in all those juices.

Over all, it wasn't the best meal I've ever made, but it definitely worked and next time I'm going to try using oranges instead! If you read this entire post, good job! See ya tomorrow!

Dayton - Day Twenty-Five

We went to church again today and really enjoyed it! The Sunday school was excellent even though we only went over a couple verses in a half hour! The service was excellent again. I really enjoyed the older music. They did some fantastic hymns that I probably haven't sung in years. The sermon was all about expecting to hear God speak to us. It was very motivating and convicting.

Being a Christian is so much more than just going to church on Sunday's and praying over your food. It has to be a relationship. It needs to be the strongest relationship we each have. That relationship with Christ is one I definitely need to work on. It's so easy to get relaxed and lazy when things are going well. It's when the hard times come that we re-learn to rely on God, but I don't want to wait for those hard times. I want Him to be mine and our best friend now.

Back to today, the service was way too short! I wanted him to keep preaching for a long time. I did enjoy playing their piano when it was all over though. I don't get to play nearly as often as I'm used to back home. *sigh* I am even more grateful for the times I do get to play now because of that fact.

We went to eat Thai again (as is our tradition) and it was SO good! But better than the food was the wonderful conversation and discussion with MMM. We talked about the service and what it means for us. We talked about the things we feel God is calling us to do. I was happy to learn that one of the desires of my heart has become a desire of my husband's. What better feeling could there be then to know we agree as one with what God is calling us to do.

When we got home I got started on one of the things we'd discussed. We want to be more consistent in prayer for others. When I was in Germany, I had a ton of mirrors that I covered with sticky notes that reminded me of things to pray for. I'm a visual learner so have those visual reminders are very important.

So there is the start of our sticky note prayer reminders. I'm sure many more will be added, but it's a start!

Dayton - Day Twenty-Four

It was our day to drive back to Dayton from picking up my car. After waking up on the navy base we packed up and headed to breakfast. It was so much harder not to eat wheat there. Waffles, bagels, muffins...mhmm...

We made our way to Milwaukee and were able to find the car shop without any issues. My car was sitting there all handsome (his name is Quirky btw) and fixed up! I'm so happy to have him back again! We drove separately to the rental car place, which meant that I (once again) would be driving in Milwaukee! I was pretty stressed about that, but I made it! It is amazing how scary driving becomes after being the cause of an accident.

After dropping on the rental car, we made some short stops at garage sales before heading on the road back  to Dayton. Nothing hugely interesting happened on the way. The only comment I have on the drive is: Why on earth are there so many blown tires in Indiana?!

We made it back safe and sound and are going to enjoy a quiet evening together. :D

Dayton - Day Twenty-Three

Wow, what a day! We are both pooped! Today while I was at home, I went swimming again, even though I was already super sore, and got ready for our trip to pick up my car! The real adventure began when we got on the road to Milwaukee. We enjoyed snacking on fruit and yummy rice snacks and listening to the radio for a good while..and then..

It was my turn to drive for a while. I was nervous again. I felt all tense in my neck and upper back. The sun was coming down right in my line of vision and the road was very busy. The biggest thing that happened was when I had to run over a blown out tire, since I had no room to avoid it. That definitely got me more freaked out than before. It wasn't too long after that that MMM agreed to drive again.

It was good timing because we were just outside of Chicago and the traffic was getting nuts. I was a nervous wreck even though I was just sitting in the passenger seat. I was the official navigator with all the directions I wrote down earlier in the day. I was so worried that I had gotten something wrong and get us really messed up!

We managed our way through Chicago with some very stressful moments (on my side at least) and got into  the suburbs without too many issues. Getting on to the base we're staying out was a trial to say the least. We got lost inside the base a few times which was very frustrating. We did make it finally and are going to enjoy sleeping tonight before finishing our trip.

Dayton - Day Twenty-Two

What a wonderful day! It started out so well having MMM home later than normal. It allowed us to have a relaxed morning and a nice breakfast together! Wahoo! After he left I got into a slight slump and ended up watching quite a bit of Biggest Loser. The good news from that is that it did motivate me to go swim again! I went swimming and did some exercises in the water that reminded me again how very weak I am. I will continue doing those exercises and will see if it makes a difference! Let's do this thing! :P I've got Bob and Jillian on my mind.

When MMM got home we went straight to the rec area of base and checked out the library! So, I'm not sure if you are reading, but hey friend who let my borrow books to take to Germany...I found the second book from Peter and the Starcatchers! I checked it out and am excited to read it.

We ate at the diner again and it was tasty! We've been doing very well without the wheat and I'm so glad! We also grabbed some snacks from the grocery store right there. We're going on a wee trip tomorrow and will need them!

We then went to his study group where I was lost and confused in a bunch of abbreviations and odd numbers. Whoo. :P Thankfully he understands a lot more than I did! I did try to read my book, but it was just too distracting.

The night was ended so well with two games of bowling with a few of the guys from his class! I have never been great at bowling, but yet have always enjoyed it immensely! My first game started out pretty rough and I ended up with 50 points, which is a personal best! (Sad, I know.) And then we started the second game and I figured it was all down hill from there since I was starting to get tired. Fortunately, it went a lot better! I got my first ever (I think) strike and one spare!! I am so excited about that!! I ended up with 75 points, which as MMM was kind enough to share, it was a 50% increase! It was so much fun!! I just enjoyed being with the guys and messing around. It was great!

Dayton - Day Twenty-One

I really enjoyed sleeping in this morning! The meds I'm on definitely did help me sleep last night and I woke up a bit groggy. I stayed home during the day and just cleaned up a bit and made more vegetable beef soup!

MMM got home from work early which was nice! We enjoyed eating soup and just chatting for awhile. I then started the book "Wheat Belly" which my uncle sent us! I'm only 18 pages in and I'm already soooo grateful that we aren't eating wheat! We are so much better off without it! If you haven't checked out the book yet you should...like right now..GO!

Tonight was the first night of choir practice and so my friend from church picked me up! I really enjoyed talking with her on the way there and back. Choir was super fun!! I'm so glad I get to sing with them, and the songs are great! I'm stoked for the next practice!

When I got home, MMM decided we should get ice cream from the store across the way, but only if I rollerbladed there. Now, if you know anything about me, you know that I am generally a fearful person, and rollerblading is NOT my thing. :P I really fought him on it, but eventually we got there. I am very slow, to be sure, but I did make it! So the trip that should have lasted around 15 minutes tops, took me about an hour. I was a bit freaked, but I made it. MMM never went far which is the only reason I made it.

The rest of the night will be spent watching Biggest Loser on Netflix and reading my book. Ahh, my life is great!

Dayton - Day Twenty

After being in so much pain yesterday I was especially glad to go to the doctor this morning. I found my way around without any issues, even including a stop at the hospital cafeteria for breakfast.

I got into my appointment much quicker than expected and found it exceedingly bizarre to see all the workers in military garb, with some wearing doctors jackets on time. It was interesting! My appointment went very quickly, and sadly was not very thorough.

I left with some medications and the reassuring knowledge that I'm might get an appointment with a physical therapist in a week or so. Sorry for the sarcasm there. I was quite discouraged by my appointment. I came home to relax until I was able to take my meds since some are possibly going to make me sleepy.

I went over to the store where a friend from church works and got to chat with her for a few minutes and that greatly lifted my spirit. The evening was spent making supper, watching Netflix and MMM studying. Not a hugely interesting day, but another one in the books for us here in Dayton!

Dayton - Day Nineteen

I'm going to keep this short because I already took melatonin and expect to be asleep very shortly. :P I brought MMM to work today so I could have the car. After coming home, I looked up a bunch of recipes and decided what I'd be making this week! The difficult thing about only being in Dayton for three months is knowing I wouldn't be able to get through some grocery items (like soy sauce), so therefore I won't buy it. We don't need anything extra to bring back with us. :P It does put some limits on what we can do though.

I drove to base and went to the awesome grocery store with my big list! I could tell right away during my shopping that something extra was going on with my neck and I just tried to get through it and not pay too much attention to it. I got all my groceries for under $40, which is a miracle.

Once back at home, I had a nice talk with my pastor from home. I called the church here and asked if I could play the piano today! They said yes, so I got on the road to the church. It was my first time driving there and it went splendidly.

Playing the piano was so great! It's been such a long time since I've played. I missed it. I probably played for a good hour and then my voice was giving out so I decided to give it time to rest. I brought my tennis supplies with me because there are courts right by the church and they actual have a practice wall! I hit the ball for maybe 20 minutes (with little success I might add) until I knew I shouldn't do any more.

I came home and could tell immediately that my neck was worse, so I just relaxed and watched a movie while icing it. I ended up taking a nap and woke up feeling even worse! I picked up MMM and we went to dinner on base and it was a chore to get through supper. As soon as we got home I went to lay down again and haven't done much else all evening. I am probably in the worst pain since the accident and would really appreciate your prayers that I'll actually be able to sleep tonight. Tomorrow is finally my doctor appointment so hopefully I'll start to be on the mend soon.

Dayton - Day Eighteen

It has been a fabulous day! I woke up pretty early...just in time to see MMM steal all my covers. I stole them back. =P After just resting in bed and praying while trying to fall back asleep, I realized it was hopeless and decided to get ready for the day. I was happy to be getting breakfast ready while my hubbie was waking up. Can't feel more like an awesome wife than when you have breakfast *almost* ready for them when they wake up! :P

We headed to church early this week as I was allowed to sing on their worship team! I was pretty surprised that they let me since I'd only attended one service, but was thrilled that they did. It was a little intimidating to be singing with strangers and not know exactly what part I should be singing. We practiced for quite a while!

After practice we went to Sunday school with two of the ladies from the team. It was interesting and made me think about things in a way I hadn't thought before. Sadly, I was starting to feel the effects of getting less sleep than usual, so I had a slightly hard time concentrating.

The service went very well! I was nervous to be sure, but made it through. I was having a lot of pain in my hip which was making it very uncomfortable to be standing for so long, so I was very relieved when we were allowed to sit down. The service was all about healing and how it needs to continue being part of our church today. Believe me or not, I had healing on the back on my mind even before church this morning, so I wasn't too surprised to see an emphasis on that!

After the service, the pastor prayed over me for healing and anointed me with oil. I hadn't had that before, so it was an interesting experience and I'm so glad I did it. MMM and I were both very encouraged by church this morning. Even though I still have pain, I know that God is capable of healing me, and that is a comfort all on its own.

We went back to the Thai place that we visited last week and it was still just as yummy! And then we came home and I took a 3 hour nap! I knew I was pretty tired. =P After that fantastic nap, I got to enjoy some more tennis while making supper. MMM and I watched "The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" since I hadn't seen it before. It definitely was a very interesting movie! I did like it, though it would have been improved with less crudeness and language. A very unique plot indeed!

After the movie, I just helped MMM study for a while, and really enjoyed an in-depth discussion of things we'd learned at church. It's so great knowing that I love talking with my husband, and I get to keep having these talks with him for the rest of my life! How wonderful!

Dayton - Day Seventeen

It was an nice lazy morning today! Ah, I love the weekend. The first task of the day was breakfast, which MMM made for us both. Isn't he a sweet guy? We watched some netflix while we ate.

Then we decided to venture out on the road and see how far we could get with him rollerblading and me biking. We went a few different ways with varying success. Alas! My body strongly dislikes me! By the end of our adventure I was dealing with a bad headache (again) and oddly enough, my left hip was extremely painful! I'm not sure what happened with my hip. I haven't had that much pain in my hip probably ever. Hmm.

I made lunch while MMM chatted with his family. I got to call my mumsie who had her first day at work in a new city today! Way to go mom! Lunch was tasty with rice, broccoli, and marinated chicken served with a side dish of Mythbusters! Woot!

MMM had another study group, so I hung out at home and watched the Tale of Despereaux which was a cute movie! I'd been wanting to see it for a long time, so I'm really glad it was on Netflix. I've also been enjoying more tennis!

It is amazing how quickly a day passes by. Before I knew it, it was time to make supper for my guy (I wasn't hungry), so I took care of that and laid down. MMM being the sweet guy he is gave me an awesome massage and got me so relaxed that I ended up taking a much needed nap.

When I woke up it was time to watch tennis again, and that has been all I've done for the rest of the evening. MMM used the time I was sleeping to practice guitar! I'm proud of how much effort he's putting into it.  Now it's time to decide what I'm wearing tomorrow and hopefully get to bed soon. G'night all!

Dayton - Day Sixteen

I slept in much later than usual which was quite refreshing! I had a great time swimming in the pool and relaxing in the sun. When I wasn't by the pool writing in my journal, I was enjoying watching the tennis tournament in Cincinnati! I've never been this close to a professional tournament and so wish I could have gone, but it was not to be. Oh well.

I enjoyed chatting with my uncle again! Only this time it was about wheat and how much it has changed over the years and how it really isn't the best for anyone to consume! He sent us a book called "Wheat Belly" which I'm excited to start!

After MMM got home we made some supper, I checked out the music for this Sunday, and we quickly ate! We headed downtown for our second movie at the historic theatre! We saw The Godfather for the very first and most likely last time! I only slightly knew the premise so I really wasn't prepared for the kind of movie it would be. I was shocked with how gruesome it was. All in all, I'm only glad I saw it so I can say that I saw it. I understand the quotes and jokes about it. That is my only reason I'm glad to have seen it.

After the movie we were both hungry so we headed out to find food. Sadly, it was so late that we only managed to get the food I wanted, and couldn't make it to the restaurant that MMM wanted. Sorry dear! But we ended up sharing my food while playing cards before bed. Ah, it was quite fun! That's all folks!

Dayton - Day Fifteen

It was a great morning since MMM had a late start! We both got to sleep in a bit and then I had fun preparing a lunch for him. After eating my own breakfast, I jumped at the chance to go swimming. The pool at our hotel has been closed more often than not because of the recent weather. I enjoyed my time at the pool and sitting in the sun playing Angry Birds on our tablet.

After getting ready for the day, I decided to do laundry in the hotel laundry room. Sadly, it is quite expensive. I'm hoping that our new place back home (whenever we find it) will have it's own washer and dryer. While doing laundry I feasted on leftover cheesy vegetable soup! I'm very happy to say that adding the chicken, potatoes, and more milk really downgraded it from very cheesy to just cheesy enough. Woot!

As is normal, MMM called me over his lunch break and we chatted for a while during his longer than normal break! He reminded me of things I needed to be researching in my time without a job, so I promptly got to that after we hung up. On a random note, I am thrilled beyond words to say that we finally got mail today! We've had such an issue getting our mail forwarded. I have been anxiously awaiting our mail for over two weeks now and we finally got some! Wahoo!!

After all the laundry was taken care of, I ran to the store to get the ingredients for my latest experiment. Last night at dinner with MMM's classmates, they brought up how I should be sending them cookies everyday, and I said it wasn't possible since I don't have a cookie sheet. Well, that put me in a mind to find a treat I could sent to them! I know one of the ladies has a wheat allergy, so I wanted to be careful of that as well. I chose to try rice krispy bars...in a crockpot! The one pot the hotel provided is definitely not big enough to make the bars in, so I improvised.

Starting it all off, I wasn't sure what temperature to go with so I just kept it pretty low. I melted the butter (which took must longer than expected) and added the marshmellows (lots of them!!) and had the enjoyable task of stirring it the whole time. I was happy to have a movie to be watching while making them. I used almost an entire box of rice krispies and probably still could have put in more. I like to do rice krispy bars in large scale (so I can eat them too)! Normally I do this on the stove and it only takes a few minutes, but doing it in the crockpot takes so much longer!
After stirring it all together came the issue of where to put it to make it set?! I had originally planned on buying tin foil to put it on like I've done in the past. Alas, I forgot to grab it. So it was on to Plan B. I grabbed one of the oven trays and put seran wrap around it. I got some of the sticky mixture on to it before I realized it wouldn't be sturdy enough for me to spread it out. Plan C came into play then with the brilliant idea of doing rice krispy balls instead of bars! I was quite pleased with myself. So I rolled all the mixture into balls and carefully stacked them on the largest plate we have to send with MMM in the morning. Over all, it did take quite a bit longer to do it off the stove, but it was manageable and they still taste yummy!

MMM was home before I was finished, so he was very helpful and got to sample it as a reward. :P We just enjoyed spending some time at home, dancing to some blues, and the usual joking around. Dinner was served at the base diner! We are eating there more than I expected to, and I do not mind one bit! We decided not to count it as eating out since it's definitely not as expensive as eating out, and we are following our no-wheat rules when eating there.

After supper we just walked around the rec area and checked out the bowling alley (which is super cheap! Ah, I love my life.). It was a nice little walk, though it was very humid out. Next, I was able to join my hubbie at his study group with classmates. Granted, I really had no reason to be there, but I did enjoy my time and hearing them discuss what they're learning. Most of my attention was devoted to reading The Phantom of the Opera on my tablet (such a good book)!

The evening was closed out by attending a free concert put on by Tops in Blue, which is made up of all Air Force members. Apparently, they had carefully picked to do these shows and they travel to many places to do it! It was enjoyable to be sure. They did a great job for the most part. I especially liked their tribute to Michael Jackson.

Now it is definitely time for bed. I'm just sitting on the couch with my eyes continually watering, so it's a sure sign I must sleep soon. So auf wiedersehen for now and I go to bed to  the gentle patter of the rain on our window. G'night all!

Dayton - Day Fourteen

It was an early morning for MMM, so I was grateful that he brought the new bike up to our room before he left with the car. I plotted my biking route and set out around 9. After just a few minutes the chain fell off and when I put it back on I must have tweaked it just a bit because the rest of my ride was full of an annoying noise. Anyway, the ride was interesting since I was dealing with a different bike with different mechanics. I also quickly saw how out of shape I got in just the short few weeks since we left home.  By the end of the ride I was definitely feeling it in my legs, but much worse in my head. I was hoping that biking wouldn't be too rough on my back, but apparently I wasn't so lucky.

I took the afternoon easy after that and enjoyed a long chat with an old friend! I was excited to have MMM home a bit earlier than usual. We hung out for a while before heading to supper with his classmates! I really enjoyed getting to meet most of his classmates and just have the opportunity to get to know them a bit. I hadn't considered it before, but very few of them knew the first names of each person! I quickly remedied that for those around me. :P The military conversation was enough to have me completely lost, but I did learn a few things. I am so glad we had that time last night, and I'm looking forward to getting to know them all better!

Dayton - Day Thirteen

I woke up to bring MMM to work and then proceeded to go to a different section of the base to submit our healthcare paperwork. Thankfully this time I didn't get lost in the huge hospital, even though I came through a different entrance! I am very pleased to say that I've been able to drive several different places without using the GPS at all! It is a big relief to feel like I'm actually getting to know the place.

Yet again, I've had a bit of a headache today, so I mostly stayed home. I did make a quick run to the store across the street. Supper was another one  from that website with some alterations. It ended up being a very cheesy vegetable soup. After we ate it was decided to add some chicken and potatoes along with some more milk. Hopefully that will bring the cheese level down a stitch.

The rest of the day was spent mostly filling out an application which was  a bit frustrating. I was hugely grateful for the advice from a friend in regards to that application. That's about it!

Dayton - Day Twelve

It has been a great day!! I had a good morning which included getting all the dishes done while watching Mythbusters, eating a delicious breakfast, and putting together supper for tonight.
I decided to do the Pizza Chicken from the website suggested to me in Day Five. It was super easy, and though I did have some doubts, it turned out quite tasty! On top of the ingredients given in the recipe, I added a nice blend of Italian seasonings. Yum! While that was cooking I mostly just hung out.
My hubbie had the car today so I couldn't go very far anyway. I did have a good chat with the hotel staff about some questions we'd had. I had my leftovers from our Thai meal for lunch and it was still delicious.
After sitting around the house all day I decided to get out and take a walk. During my 45 minute walk I got to chat with one of my sisters and my awesome uncle!! That was such a blast! And before MMM got home I took the great opportunity to try my hand at Super Mario 64 which I must admit did not go so well.
MMM came home to the smell of pizza chicken and so we dove in and as I said, it was quite tasty! We took a short trip south to go look at a bike I saw on Craigslist today. I was very pleased to buy one of the bikes he was selling, and at a cheaper price than listed. Woot! Now I finally have a bike that we both can use. All I have to do now is find the best places to bike. I'm very excited to have it.
We really enjoyed our drive down to the man's house. The area is exactly what we are looking for in a permanent residence. Woah, calm down now folks, I didn't say we weren't going back to you...not yet at least. =P It really was gorgeous and really inspired us to go looking for a situation similar to that. Who knows, maybe God will call us back to this place someday. That's it for a full day in Dayton!

Dayton - Day Eleven

Our second Sunday meant trying our second church! We found this one without any issues and were warmly greeted once inside. It was a nice sized church that must have been built quite a while ago. It almost had the feel of my church back home before they changed buildings.
Anyway, the music was definitely not the newest music out there, but you know what, I really enjoyed it! We sang songs that I know from my childhood and it was so nice to sing them again. We also sang some hymns which I also really enjoyed! I was so blessed to see how often they read the Bible during the service and definitely enjoyed the sermon.
Getting to chat with a whole bunch of people after the service was very nice and encouraging! I even got to play the piano for a minute. Over all, I loved this church a lot. It is different from our church back home, but it more similar to the church I grew up in. Yay for church!
After church we went out to eat at a thai place that was really quite delicious! We got to enjoy the beautiful weather by sitting outside while we ate. This afternoon I watched tennis while MMM played golf. I took an unexpected nap and then read more in the Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. I love that book. Mhmm. I'm only sad that my dvds were left in storage! I'll have to watch the movie once we get back. The rest of the evening will consist of watching House Hunters (I'm thinking of you mom!) :P and more tennis! I have greatly enjoyed today...if you couldn't tell. :D

Dayton - Day Ten

Thankfully, I am feeling a bit better today, but I still just laid around for the most part. Netflix has been my most common companion. I forgot to mention yesterday that I got to meet a few of MMM's classmates! That was nice.
This morning MMM went to play golf for awhile and he enjoyed it. He came home just in time for lunch which was baked potatoes (with bacon, cheese, sour cream) and eggs (with awesome seasoning) on the side. It was quite delicious!!
We hung out at home for a bit discussing what to do for the rest of the day. I got to chat with a dear friend from home which was very fun.We decided to go get his haircut and buy groceries on base. I love being on base. After combing through most aisles, we left with a few things and decided that we were so close to the dining hall that we should just eat supper there. Hey, why not! :P It was also quite delicious. We drove around the base a bit after that.
Once back at home all we did was watch tennis and give each other massages since now we are both in some pain. :P And that's all that happened today. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit more interesting for you. :P

Dayton - Day Nine

Definitely not feeling the best today, so I just hung out at home at watched netflix mostly. I did make a trip across town for a bike. Sadly, it was a bust and my nerves were not happy with me. For the rest of tonight we are just going to relax and watch tennis. So a short update for you today.

Dayton - Day Eight

I drove MMM to work today and then I proceeded to drive to a different section of the base (which is a ways away) in order to be signed up for the health care that we both get since he is on orders. I found my way to the hospital without a hitch and then found a way into the hospital, but I definitely had no clue where I was going, so a uniformed man ended up helping me finding my way. The hospital on base is large and winding (aka, very confusing), but I did find my way.
I got to the office only to find out that I didn't have what I needed to get signed up after all! *sigh* So I joked around with the ladies a bit and then had to find my way out. When I left I had the great experience of seeing multiple airmen saluting an officer who was right in front of me. I just love seeing people salute. Don't ask why, I just don't know! :P
Unfortunately, I went out from a different door than I came in, and once outside promptly realized I had no idea where my car was. It was pretty humorous actually. I walked around for a bit and it turned up that my internal directions are pretty good! I found my car and got on my way.
I meant to go on to the mall but couldn't get my gps to recognize it. So once again, I relied on my internal directions and I actually found the mall without any huge issues! Success! Sadly, the mall wasn't going to be open for a couple hours, so I drove around for a bit before heading home.
Once I got home I really didn't do much of anything. I watched a ton of Netflix because I haven't been feeling the best all day. My head has been very painful. =(
I picked MMM up and we went to eat on base for supper and it was quite tasty! =D Then we walked around the stores on base and were happy to discover how low the price of food was! I will definitely be doing my bulk shopping there!
After leaving base we headed to the mall to get my ring inspected. We hung out there for a bit and now we are home for the night and I'm hoping for a more successful night of sleep than last night. That's it for today!

Dayton - Day Seven

It was a good day, even though I didn't go very far. :P I decided to make a vegetable beef soup for the first time in my fantastic crock pot! I was a bit nervous since it was my first time, but it went really well! Using the crock pot was so nice since it is big enough to actually hold the soup! The one pot we have here is pretty small so my options with it are limited.

Anyway, so while the soup was in the crock pot, I spent my day doing laundry and catching up one of my many journals! I was quite behind and now I'm only a little behind. I may try to finish that today or tomorrow. I'd like to get it back on track and try once again to write in it every day. I don't think there is any better way to preserve memories than to write them down, and that's one reason I have this blog!

The soup turned out very well, in both MMM's and my own opinion! Yay for success! And the rest of my night was spent watching Netflix while MMM went dancing. I wish I could have gone with him, but my back/neck is still quite painful and we both knew it wouldn't be wise. Sad. Hopefully I can get a few answers tomorrow about a place to have my back checked out.

Thanks again to who ever commented on my last post. That website is incredible and I'm so excited to try out a whole bunch of them! So I can't say today was the most exciting day, but it was productive and I can be happy with that.

Dayton - Day Six

Today was the first day I had use of the car since I actually dropped MMM off at work. I decided to go on an adventure right then, so I headed to one of the many metroparks that this area boasts! (See unedited pics below) It was truly beautiful being there so early in the morning. That being said, I realized that it might not be the safest thing to stay very long without my forgotten phone and no one else around. The real adventure began when I had no clue how to get back. As far as I understand, the way I got in was a one way situation, so I had to leave a different way. I am once again so grateful to have a gps to guide me. I did end up finding my way back, but I am sure my back was much more tense in that moment. :P

After quickly grabbing my phone, I made my way over to the busy shopping district and found a Target. I hung out there for  a bit and bought a few things. I enjoyed being my checker's very first customer. I was able to help her figure out the system a bit. Technology is a beautiful thing. I was going to go to Best Buy but just missed the turn. I figured I already had enough of an adventure without trying to turn around. We'll save that trip for Thursday.

I got to enjoy the little pool here for a while too! Other than that, I mostly spent my day working on my computer and making food. I got to chat with a few members of my family, which was awesome! I guess I did go to the grocery store as well. :P After MMM got home we just hung out and played some games. I'm happy to say I finally won a game of Settlers! Woot! That's about it for now!

Dayton - Day Five

Here is our little kitchen. I'm so glad we have it! Our original plan was to be living on base which would not have provided us with any kitchen. As you can imagine, I was beyond thrilled to learn that we'd been approved to live off base! Hurray!
So here is our little kitchen. The supplies are limited (aka 1 pot and 1 pan) which has made things interesting. Who doesn't want a little challenge here and there? The odd thing I have noticed is that we have, for the most part, remained in 'food survival mode', meaning that we are only buying what we are immediately going to use. I hadn't thought about it too much until today when it came time to prepare a lunch for MMM for tomorrow and we didn't really have much of an option. Therefore, tomorrow I'm going to go out and buy supplies. It is time to settle into some kind of normal.

I also realized that we really haven't any type of normal menu! Ever since the wedding we've either been eating food from the wedding or eating out. At least that was the usual for a long time. Now we're in Dayton and we're back off the wheat so we need to find a new normal. I'm looking for any new recipes that don't contain wheat. Got any ideas? Leave me a comment if you know any great recipes!

Dayton - Day Four

This being our first Sunday in Dayton obviously meant having to try a new church! We decided on a church that was pretty close by. Unfortunately, that "pretty close by" became a bit far away as I got us lost. Whoops! :P But we made it there just a few minutes late. The church service was pretty good, though not like going to our home church. We enjoyed checking out their large complex which included an incredible children's building! I was floored by it. It felt more like an amusement park. :P

But anyway, after church we just hung out at home and played some games. We went downtown to check out a cafe/bar that was supposed to be having a special event. We found out that it wasn't until later today. So we decided to find a Chinese buffet. For those of you who know MMM it shouldn't come as a huge shock that he made me call probably around 15 just so we could find a buffet! :P We did eventually find one and it was quite tasty!

We came to the decision that we are going to only allow ourselves to eat wheat products when we go out to eat once a week. It's really hard to eat gluten-free at restaurants, though possible sometimes. So now we will just work hard to only cook gluten-free at home.

So supper was great, and then we went back to that cafe/bar. It did end up being a bit disappointing but we live and learn. Other than that, MMM has a big day tomorrow, so it's quickly to bed now. More tomorrow!

Dayton - Day Three

Ok, today was awesome! Nothing exciting happened until M got back from school. Then we went to go find me a bike which, unfortunately, was unsuccessful. Then we ate at the cafeteria on his base. That was definitely a first. I felt pretty awkward. I'm not in the military and I just don't want to seem too out of place. It was amazingly inexpensive and fun! I've only eaten in a cafeteria once before (crazy, I know), so it was kinda cool for me. We got to eat surrounded by people in uniform. I'm not sure why, but seeing people in military uniforms completely thrills me! Good thing I married a military man! :D Haha, maybe I'll start calling him My Military Man (aka MMM). :P I really enjoyed eating there and watching the olympics (table tennis is incredible!).

After supper we went to the "Cool Film Series" at one of the downtown theatres. It was so sweet! It was cheap and came with free pop and popcorn! We sat in the balcony of this beautiful old theatre and I couldn't help but imagine what it must have been like to go to this theatre when it first opened! That would have been so exciting, I'm sure.

There was an organ show before the movie started and I really enjoyed it! Most of the songs I didn't know, but there were a few I could sing along with.  My favorite part of that was when he played the National Anthem. To have everyone stand and sing together gave me incredible goosebumps. I can't remember the last time I was able to experience that.

The movie was Agatha Christie's "Murder on the Orient Express" which I found quite good. It was so enjoyable to attend the movie with an older crowd (who probably saw it before) and have the theatre ring out with laughter. It was funny indeed, though difficult to understand the speakers at some points. Over all, it was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to see another show there.

After the movie we had planned on going to a bar with live blues/folk music. I was tired after the movie and contemplated whether I really wanted to go or not, but I'm so glad we did decide to go. The bar/restaurant was really neat and the music was incredible! There were just two members of the band, a electric guitarist who sang and the drum player. They were both extremely good and had a fantastic sound. We got to dance to a couple of songs and are currently enjoying the two cds we bought from them. Hurray for an awesome date and an encouraging day. =D

Dayton - Day Two

After our wedding I was only working a few shifts now and then so for the most part I was just staying at home. There were a few times I got a bit bored, but for the most part I had plenty to do. Well, here in Dayton I can not say it's been the same. I don't have a job, don't know my way around, and don't really know anyone. Let's just say that life has been pretty boring.

The nice things have been being able to actually watch the Olympics and the opportunity to work on some of my older projects! The really nice thing about today was getting to meet one of the families who are here for M's military training! I got to hang out with them for a couple of hours and it was nice just being around other people.

I'm looking forward to making more friends here. I'm also really hoping to feel physically improved soon. That accident did more than I first knew and I think that has had a big part to play in my low spirits. It's hard to feel super happy about life when it hurts to do just about everything. :P But I can remember how blessed I am that nothing more serious happened.

We drove around our area tonight and found lots of shopping areas which is nice. There is quite a bit to do here, which was surprising to me. I'm hoping to find a cheap bike here that I can use to explore the area a bit more. Here's to hoping that tomorrow I will feel a bit better. :)

Dayton - Day one

We started on the road last Saturday morning at about 5:30am, and after visiting a few people, we made it to Dayton yesterday around 5:30pm! We had a great time visiting with M's family for a few days. I got to play tennis and ping pong with M and his brother which was really fun. And I managed to break my rollerblades! :P

Once we made our way to Milwaukee I happened to be driving. It was rush hour and stop and go traffic. It is unfortunate, but I did end up getting us into a small accident. I was very upset about it all, but was given a new perspective when we found out that a police officer had just passed away a few hours before in an accident close to where we were. In the grand scheme of things, we were very lucky. My car is currently still in Milwaukee waiting to be fixed, but as we had to get to Dayton, we ended up getting a rental car! All of this is a new experience for both M and me.

We had a long drive from Milwaukee, and I am so proud of M for driving the whole way. I was still feeling pretty nervous to drive. We got to our hotel safely and started getting settled in. It is definitely not as nice as our old apartment, but it will definitely work just fine. We rearranged the furniture a bit, put out some photos, and put away the food we bought from just across the street!

This morning was the first day of M's training, so we had the adventure of finding the right place and then I had to drive back by myself! I was pretty nervous, but I made it just fine, and thankfully, it was pretty close to our hotel. So the plan for today while I'm here by myself is to finish unpacking all our stuff and start making this our temporary home. :)
