I was 5 or 6 years old when I got my first pair of glasses. I don't really remember not having them. One of my favorites were the confetti speckled pair, but I remember most of them. At one point, around 10, I even had a pair of bifocals.
I started having a unique issue with my left eye when I was around 12. My eye twitched almost constantly, but the stranger thing was the bubble sensation in my eye. The only way I've been able to explain it is feeling an air bubble in the back of my eye that would float to the front of my eye, and then bursting right before it would leave my eye. My eye doctor initially suspected that I had bleeding inside my eye, but after an examination turned up nothing, the doctor had no answer. I resolved to live wiith it.
When I'd been dealing with it for about six months, I heard someone praying for healing in the eye of a listener and I knew they meant me. I felt completely overwhelmed! I'm so happy to say that God healed my eye in that moment, and I never have had that issue since. I have asked other opthalmalogists about it and no one has heard of anything even similar to my experience.
Life continued as normal. I was used to wearing glasses, so I just dealt with it. After 20 years of glasses, I finally started getting eager to not need them anymore. There was a lot to consider with timing to get lasik done. They suggest waiting until you won't be pregnant anymore (pregnancy can change prescriptions), and waiting until after doing major schooling (for reading strain on the eyes). Having a stable prescription is also important. It was just in the last year that all of those things came together.
About 6 months ago at church, I felt compelled to have people pray for my eyes to be healed, even if the healing was achieved through lasik. Fast forward to a month ago when I had my first consultation. The doctor said that I was a good candidate for lasik, but that I had the most difficult prescription to treat with lasik. At each appointment he would remind me that the most he could comfortably guarantee was 20/40 vision. Meaning that what normal people can see at 40 feet, I would need to see at 20. I accepted this news knowing that anything would be an improvement. I would be able to function day to day, and I would be in the legal limit to drive without glasses. He did warn me that I might still need glasses for nightime driving. Despite all this, MMM and I still thought it was worth pursuing.
As the day drew near, I was reminded of the day in church where I asked for prayer. I started praying again. I prayed that the procedure would do much more than the doctor expected, and I believed it would happen. The procedure went fairly smoothly. It took most of the day for my vision to clear up, but by the end of the day I could actually read my phone without major strain on my eyes! It was incredible!
The next day was my first post-op appointment. The first thing they did was ask me to read the lowest line I could. Immediately the doctor was staring at me dumbfounded! I was able to read the 20/20 line without any effort! I could even read half of the 20/15 line! He absolutely couldn't believe it. He said my eyes looked perfect for one day post surgery. And all he could say was how suprised he was at my immediate results. He did warn me that my vision might fluctuate some and might not settle at 20/20, but we'd see.
One week later the 20/15 line was as clear as could be. He still can't believe it! I've been back multiple times since my operation and my vision has remained steady at 20/15. I told him I was praying for a miracle, and I got it! I asked him what my vision was without my glasses and he shocked me by saying 20/400! What you might make out at 400 feet, I would need to have 20 feet away for clarity. As a side note, he also told me that 20/200 is considered legally blind.
I went from seeing 20/400 to miraculously seeing at 20/15! I am so beyond grateful for the healing God granted me with my vision. I have so enjoyed being able to live my life without the inconvenience of wearing glasses. I'm hopeful for many more years of excellent vision!
